Internal linking is also another way of web promotion, specifically onsite optimization. The web content must contain the keywords for your site. That is why it is important to have those keywords seen within the content of your site for internal linking purposes. You have to provide anchor text that would lead to other web pages of your site. This help a lot in having your site more links because search engines love links. However, you must not forget to make sure that your keywords are relevant and very descriptive of what site it is leading to internet users to.
Sitemap is also another important thing to consider in onsite optimization. The links in the sitemap are also crawled by the search engines. The sitemap not only serves as the guide for internet users when navigating your site pages; they also help search engine spiders not to miss web pages when doing the crawling. It is recommended that the link that would lead the visitors to sitemap page must be seen either at the top or at the bottom of every web page.
The off site optimization is more on building links for the site. This process involves social bookmarking, directory submission, blog posting, blog commenting, forum posting and many others.
